sind ein Trio im besten Sinne - reduziert und flexibel, eine dynamische Einheit.
Jan Roth - Bass, Gunar Laabs - Gitarre und Jan Barich - Drums bilden seit Jahren das Gerüst für Diarios melodiösen, energetischen (Post-)Rock. Sounds und Songs werden bei den drei Leipzigern auf ihre Wirkung und Ästhetik abgeklopft. Jeder Ton hat einen bewussten Zweck, doch klingt diese Musik nie konstruiert oder mathematisch-kopflastig.
Sie bewegen sich zwischen Tortoise, Battles und Trans Am, um nur einige Anleihen zu nennen. Auch elektronische Spielarten einer postmodernen Offenheit gehören zu ihren Einflüssen. Deutlich wurde dies auf dem letzten regulären Album "Things in the mirror appear closer than they are" (2006, Velocity Sounds) und ihrer selbst produzierten Tour-CD "2007". Vielschichte Bassläufe und ausdrucksstarke, treibende Rythmen bilden das Fundament für tief gehende Gitarren und Synthesizermelodien. Ein organisches Geflecht wird hier von der "einzig wahren Postrockband Deutschlands" (Roland Bergner - Velocity Sounds) produziert.
Live konnten sie dies in unzähligen Konzerten unter Beweis stellen. Ob auf mehrwöchigen Tourneen mit OSTINATO (Washington DC) oder auf ihrer 3-wöchigen Tour 2007, immer zeigten sie, das Rockmusik auch ein Live-Erlebnis ist.

Chicago could be anywhere. This time the spaceship of advanced and intense limit-negotiation is landing in Leipzig, Germany. Diario is a three-piece instrumental band, formed in 1999. Their goal is stretching both the language and structure of what has previously been dubbed as ´post-rock´ into realms of rock, jazz and folk. Diario bring forth a different point of view on these roots, including rolling thunder, complex melodies and even some beats and breaks from outside the rock world. Their tunes surprise the listener at every turn, never allowing its audience to become complacent. Every instrument is like an actor in a warm but experimental film, setting a new key scene with every moment whilst the other instruments follow in discussion the result. Diario is like instruments criticize each other but finding a solution out on every argue.
Of course Diario are a brilliant live band, improvising their material but never losing control. Their attitude as well as musical roots dates back to the good ol´ days when Chicago postrockers created a completely new way of musical thinking. Deep in this tradition Diario evaluate their influences without immitation or copying starter foundations as the mighty Slint, Tortoise, Don Caballero or Karate. They fit in no category, nonetheless waving their melodies in the same haze as Billy Mahonie, Calexico, Dianogah, Atombombpocketknife, Tristeza, Quixotic or 90 Day Men.
Their records are of those which stay and grow - like good friends, but with having their own struggles and opinions. Didn´t you say yesterday you need that?
